The General Lighthouse Authority (GLA) for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar (Trinity House)

It has held responsibility for the safety of shipping and the well being of seafarers since being granted a Royal Charter by Henry VIII in 1514.

The Trinity House Lighthouse Service:

  • Provides Aids To Navigation to assist the safe passage of a huge variety of vessels through some of the busiest sea-lanes in the world. There are in excess of 600 aids to navigation, ranging from lighthouses to a satellite navigation service.
  • Is a Deep Sea Pilotage Authority providing expert navigators for ships trading in Northern European waters and licencing Deep Sea Pilots.
  • It is also a Charitable Organisation dedicated to the safety, welfare and training of mariners.
